Subject: Mardi Gras

Last year, Christie and Mike, my daughter and son-in-law, helped me bake King Cakes until we developed a recipe we liked.

We had two problems:

1. We could not find any purple sugar or purple food color in Donladsonville.
Solution:
We mixed red and blue food color until we developed our own.

2. One night we became hungry before the cake had a chance to rise.
Solution:
We went to the Grapevine in Donaldsonville. When we returned the dough was lovely.

I'm sharing the recipe that we voted as the best one. Just go to http://fwlcookbook.com/KingCake.html for the King Cake recipe and the history of King Cakes.

There's something wonderful about playing in dough.
