When I was growing up, our family had a tradition of offering individual thanks before the meal. We'd go around the table and each name what we were thankful for. One year, my brother, who was about 7 or 8 and the last one to give thanks offered up "Thank you for giving me a tongue so I can taste this food, and a big stomach so I can eat a lot, and..." you can guess where it went from there. It's one of our family's funny stories we tell every year. But I'm starting to figure out, pretty late in life, that the difference between "not enough" and "enough" is gratitude. It makes a meal a feast, a house a home, a little a lot.

It's been almost a year since Dan passed away. Lately, when I feel like crying, "We didn't have enough, he went too soon," I think of how much of him we DID have; he even planned a gift for us to be given after his passing. And the gratitude I feel makes it enough.

Blessings to you all and your families. Whatever your plans for the holiday, I hope you all have enough.
