In the deepest part of the Forest, where the River Ilvaen originates at the Dark Pool, Di'lerya'oni le'Pan, the Healing Woman, watches the approaching train of her sister, the Old Queen, and her escort of faeries. The placid, detached Healer waits, knowing her sister would not have come with little reason.
In a setting of mist and a clearing of it, the Old Queen appears at the pool. Her faery train linger for a moment, then scurry away at a hand-gesture from their Queen.
"Sister," the Old Queen greets in a ringing voice. "You know what is to come. The Moon Dragon and the Sea Dragon are already here."
"Yes," Di'lerya'oni responds. "I know. The people of the Island do not, though. Nor would they believe it if they were told."
A very faint look of disdain passes the Old Queen's face. "You are probably right, sister, but I believe I will send a messenger to them all the same. It would be better for us were the Followers of Christ desolved from this Island, but the people of Welchester are the descendents of those who once came here and worshiped us."
They both fall silent as a woosh of wings and wind brings another in the small clearing. A much bigger someone, too. Large, stately, and infininately wise-looking, the Holly Dragon bows his head to the two women.

"My Ladies," the Holly Dragon greets a deep, rumbling voice. Much like that of the Merlin of Britain. "You are both correct, the people will perish if these young, ambitious dragons have their way this time. The humans any more will not remember that the dragons gather every 700 years here to do battle and fight for High Dragon."
"I thought, My Lord," Di'lerya'oni says softly with the utmost respect, "that you were not to come this year. You still hold that title, but I did not think you were to partake in the battles this year."
The Holly Dragon suddenly looks grave. "Nor did I think, my dear, but these dragons are too dangerous. If they gain High Dragon, I fear the worst."
The Old Queen looks solomnly in the distance. "The Dark Dragon has arrived, my lord."
