 I *think* Joan was Jean's friend at the Sacred heart Academy. She introduced Joan and Teddy telling Joan " I want you to meet my little brother," and Joan being surprised then that the "little" brother was so huge and big (she'd expected to see a little kid!) And then later she was invited home to lunch or to tea. I remember reading that she was very nervous but that Rose made her feel comfortable... but that was her public statement, who knows how she REALLY felt!
