In reply to: Alison 's message, "The Spiritual To Do List..." on 06:49:01 02/14/05 Mon

Hey, I think, just maybe I will put quiet and calm self defense at the top of my spiritual to do list. (I usually cave in when I am criticized, no matter what... I make excuses and whine perhaps to dear friends who will be in my corner LATER, after the fact,) but I am kind of a lame wimp when it comes to simply and sweetly and calmly and all that... standing my ground when I am criticized. I will do ANYTHING to make people feel that they are right and it's okay...... even if it is to admit I'm wrong when I don't feel wrong in my heart.. For example, today my dearest mommy (80) met me for lunch with my son and dad at a fast food restuarant. I teach half days and had been to school wearing a "kinda foxy for a fat gal" little outfit with a glittery sweater, a dark crimson skirt and a necklace full of little aurora borealis hearts... Whether or not it looked fabulous, who knows, but I liked it A LOT. My mom is a puritan.. I think she slipped over on the Mayflower, helped burn witches at the stake and was reborn during the McCarthy era... haha.. I love her to death, but she always made me wear turtlenecks and button the top buttons and even sewed little dickies in my V-neck sweaters.. Well, this little number wasn't up to her standards... kinda medium, but not at all low cut..

She was appalled... She really lit into me, "Do you realize how revealing that top is?"

I usually grab at it and make excuses, but I said, "Yep. I like it like that."

She gasped on her straw full of diet coke.."YOU WANT TO SHOW THE SKIN ABOVE THE LINE BETWEEN YOUR BREASTS?????" I am not making this up!!!

Well, I just grinned and leaned forward and said, "I love to show that skin, and even lower if possible!" and I laughed and laughed... maybe a bit too much laughter???

I kind of thought she would throw her pop at me, but she just shook her head and then dropped the whole subject... DROPPED IT!!! I am 50, and I didn't know my mom would drop anything if I defended myself... I admit I did tug up the front of the sweater just a tad, but I am very proud of myself!! hahahaha...

Well, take care all...

Alison, I understand about those sad movies... They are a part of your soul when they make you cry! and a lot of movies have!

Happy Valentine's Day. I'm going to a Bed and Breakfast tonight with a sorority group for a dinner and our gift exchange....

G.
