Thanks to those who were kind enough to offer suggestions. All were tried, with no success. I did spend about an hour with the tech service people at Visioneer and we did a LOT of things. The conclusion was that I should format the C drive and start over. I decided I would prefer not to go to that much trouble if I could possibly avoid it. I just reinstalled Windows98SE right over the original OS. It worked. I now have everything running normally. Again, Thanks.
