St. Anthony falls in quadruple OT, comes back vs. Lawrence High
Thursday, February 10, 2005
One night after playing deep into the night in a quadruple-overtime loss to the No. 3 ranked team in California, St. Anthony High showed no signs of fatigue in a 55-27 thrashing of Lawrence High last night at the CERC in Jersey City.

Ranked ninth in the nation and third in the Garden State, the Friars returned to their trademark defensive-minded reputation, which ignited their transitional game as they built a commanding 38-14 halftime advantage that was never threatened.

Sophomore guard Miles Beatty scored 10 of his 12 points in a game-breaking 26-10 second quarter. Eleven different players got into the scoring column for the Friars.

Tuesday night at the Yanitelli Center of St. Peter's College, St. Anthony uncharacteristically ran out of gas in a 70-63 four-overtime setback to Dominguez High of Compton, Ca., despite the game-high 23-point performance of Barney Anderson, spoiling Derrick Mercer's return. He missed several games with a thigh injury.

Anderson notched nine points in a 21-11 fourth quarter comeback to rally the Friars from a rare double-digit deficit, 38-28, after three quarters of play en route to St. Anthony knotting the game at 49-all to end regulation.

The Friars failed to maintain that momentum, and during the course of the first, second and third overtime sessions only scored 13 points as did Dominguez.

Dominguez had four players reach double-figures, including 6-foot-5 guard Tony Harvey who shared team-high honors with 15 points.
