Subject: Inside Game???
I have followed Rider basketball since I was a student there starting in 1968 and as I see it the problem most of the time is lack of big, strong forwards who can rebound with authority on the offensive and defensive ends. I know it's easier to recruit quality guards than quality big men on the mid-major level and I am probably just stating the obvious. We have had many fine guards over the years
(although many of them have been undersized), but not too
many power forward types and certainly few, if any, quality
centers. Looking at this year's team, Edwin Muniz is more of a shooting forward (and I don't believe he is 6'7" - he
is more like 6'6" or even 6'5"). After him who is there of any real consequence in the front court? Steve Castleberry
is a very soft (and slow) 7'0" center who intimidates few
opposing players. Jason Thompson has had a fine freshman year and should have a great career at Rider, but is still
a freshman and shows it on occasion. Paul Johnson fills in
nicely as a swing player but doesn't really work the boards that much, even though he is a great leaper. Armel Minyem
is way too thin. As usual, Rider's strength is in the backcourt. I would like to see the emphasis change a little in Rider's future recruiting efforts.

Welcome 72
I think there were a few nice forwars at Rider, The Lacey,McPeek combo was pretty good and the Porter McClark combo was strong. There have been lapses in between. Big forwards are the hardest position to recruit at a mid major. Jason Thompson is a good rebounder who will improve as he gets more upper body strength. Paul Johnson is a good rebounder. Next year with the additions of Vosilla and Anderson there should be some bench production on the boards. When Rider plays a 3 guard offense it weakens the rebounding numbers. Lets go Rider an get a win tonight.

You had a real talent back maybe 12-15 years ago. Kid was maybe 6'5", really blossomed out in his sophmore year. Only problem, I think he was/became a head case and had academic issues also. Was a common anme like Smith, Williams or something.
Or am I dreaming all this?

Steves brother, was a very good player and was tossed before senior year for violating team rules.
