Subject: Hello, old friends! Remember me?

I hope you’re all doing okay. I am fine, but on Feb. 4th my husband Steve suffered a major heart attack. Thank God the EMTs were here in a flash and rushed him to the ER of one of the best heart hospitals in the country. And thank God one of my neighbors came over and insisted on driving me to the hospital (“Vicki, you’re in no shape to drive!”). She was right. It was still dark (about 6:00 AM), the Houston medical center is a maze even in broad daylight, and my brain was fried. I was in shock.
The next few days were scary. At first, his room was full of machines he was connected to to keep him alive. Gradually they removed them one by one, and a few days ago he was moved from intensive care to intermediate care. They are going to discharge him soon – maybe tomorrow, maybe Monday – but we don’t know yet if he is going to come home and go to PT 3 times a week, or go into a residential rehab facility for a couple of weeks before he comes home.
So that’s been my life for the last 2 weeks. I go to the hospital every morning by 10 (start of visiting hours) and stay until about 5:30. Then I leave and come home to feed the cat, eat dinner (usually from the Whole Foods salad bar), open the mail, pay bills, do whatever else I need to do (no, cleaning is not one of them), and get some rest.
But the most importantly thing is that Steve is still alive. Soon he’ll be in bed next to me again. For that, I am profoundly grateful. ❤️❤️❤️
