Subject: Movie Monday! What did you see this weekend? I

watched mostly sports stuff, Olympics and NBA all-star Saturday. But now the plan is to catch up on Academy Award nominated films for the next few weeks. I found a few that I can stream so far. I want to see West Side Story in a theater, but if that doesn't happen, I can it streaming.

The Yellowstone spin-off is very good, if a bit over-acted. Steals some iconography from Dances with Wolves, but I'll forgive em. It's beautifully filmed and fun to watch. The History channel also running an enacted series, Lincoln, by Doris Kerns-Goodwin. Taped yesterdays ep, 2 more to follow this week.

Nightmare Alley, directed by Guillermo del Toro. It's what I would call a carnie noire and takes place in the late 30s-early 40s. It stars an amazing Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett, who looks born for the era. It's a stellar cast with Ron Perlman, Rooney Mara, Willem Dafoe, Toni Collette, David Strathairn, Richard Jenkins and Mary Steenburgen among them. It's loooooong. But really well done.
