Subject: Movie Monday! What did you see this weekend? I

didn't see any movies this weekend, but did watch the Grammys, which had a lot of great performances. A lot of the awards, including for rock, were done ahead of the broadcast. But you can find the entire list of winners and nominees here:

I loved Lady Gaga's performance, also Rachel Zegler, Cynthia Erivo and 2 more singing "Someday, somewhere". So beautiful.
We saw The Lost Daughter, which was very well-acted and intriguing, storyline a bit confusing tho, strange character motivations. I was SMH?
Licorice Pizza was a weird coming of age story about a 15 year old boy and his 25 year old girlfriend navigating love and business start-ups. Really not at all Oscar-worthy. Creepy age gap.

the Haim sisters all had roles (the director is married to one I believe.) Paul Thomas Anderson films are often a bit bizarre and are probably an acquired taste. I generally like them. The casting in this one was so out there, I loved it! He was Oscar-nominated for director and screenplay. The screenplay won the BAFTA. He's from the Valley so the nostalgic settings were spot on.

[> House of Gucci, King Richard and Respect -- AllyG, 14:23:46 04/07/22 Thu [1]

Late posting but I saw all three last weekend.

House of Gucci was very long and not terribly interesting to me. The accents were all over the place (I know there are a lot of different accents in Italy but it was distracting especially the guy playing Paolo). Gaga was really good though I am not sure I would say she was robbed of an Oscar nom.

Respect was very interesting to me as I did not know a lot about Aretha Franklin and her life. Jennifer Hudson was amazing. Her voice gives me chills.

King Richard was also really interesting because I did not know the details of the rise of venus and Serena Williams. Do have to wonder how accurate it was given that essentially Richard Williams just decided he was going to make tennis stars of his daughters and he did. I thought Will Smith was really good. He is one of those actors it can be hard to forget their real from their reel if you know what I mean. I really never thought of him during the movie just the character.

I would recommend Respect and King Richard but I am not sure about Gucci.
