Movie Monday! What did you see this weekend? I
No movie, but I DO have a question for you, about Steven Spielberg's comments on Roma. -- skw123, 09:46:47 03/04/19 Mon [1]
Each year (for the past few years), AMC Theaters have run the nominated shorts in the month of Feb. before -- LAwoman, 12:23:44 03/04/19 Mon [1]

They were saying on the news that Roma was in theaters for one week. But, I don't know. -- skw123, 13:59:49 03/04/19 Mon [1]
It all seems strange that films are (almost) unavailable to see, then they get nominated for awards. I wish the theaters would show the shorts before regular films, like they used to show info reels, war coverage, etc back in the day. (long before my time, lol).
The internet streaming services are changing the game, for sure.

Film shorts and documentaries are primarily screened at film festivals. I think the IFC channel -- LAwoman, 14:16:54 03/04/19 Mon [1]
shows them as well. Some of our film students where I work were able to go as a group with faculty to Sundance this year. Their experience was so enriching.
But every full-length film other than Roma had fairly extended runs in the theaters. Even foreign language (other than Roma) films are always screened at the Laemmle theater chain. That's their specialty! I want to see Cold War and it should be available OnDemand shortly. I love Alfonso Cuaron, but screw Roma and Netflix!
