[> I believe GOT just received the most noms ever for a tv series. -- skw123, 19:19:13 07/16/19 Tue [1]

Wow, guess the critics liked the final series better than the fans. I'm also totally excited about Car Pool Karaoke getting a nom for the Paul McCartney ep, LOL.

shows, I'm very happy about Anthony Carrigan (Barry), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Billy Porter (Pose) and Samantha Bee's show getting recognition. Actually I'm pretty good with these nominations overall. The only snubs for me were Indya Moore (Pose) and Stephen Dorff (True Detective.)

[> I have a ? about the Emmy noms for you, LA. -- skw123, 09:53:47 07/17/19 Wed [1]

I've heard that Peter Dinklage was in more scenes than any other actor in GOT, but his nom is for supporting actor, not lead. GOT has 1 nom for best actor, while Thi IS US has 2. Do you know how this system works?

categories decided sort of strategically, with supporting or lead acting for example submitted with the goal of what gives them the best chance at winning or being accepted for a nomination to begin with. There have been ensemble shows where the actors have agreed not to submit any as leads or all as leads as a sign of solidarity (I think Friends did this for years.) But there is a fee for just submitting your show or yourself. And then the TV Academy determines if the submission qualifies based on the rules such as date range (somewhere between June and end of May the following year I think.) The entire group of Academy members vote on shows for nomination and peer groups vote on the individual categories such as acting and writing. So there are lots of submissions that don't get selected for nomination.

[> [> [> Interesting. So members of the same cast compete with each other, if selected. -- skw123, 23:22:03 07/17/19 Wed [1]

It's all a big gamble, I think, for fame and fortune.

more work when recognized for previous work. It's like beefing up your resume. That's especially true for writing, directing, costuming, effects and other tech categories, but acting too. And for show categories, show runners might get more of their projects green lighted with a shiny new award by their names. Job security is never a given in that business.
