I was happy for Colin Ferrel, Demi Moore and Jean Smart.
I'm not why we needed a remake of the original Shogun, except maybe they thought we're all too old to remember it was already well done and well awarded back in 1980? Hollywood is doing so much rinse and repeat these days.

the current version is more culturally Japanese and doesn't have the limitations of network TV. I think they both are great, but I prefer the FX version as it incorporated more Japanese culture and characters. The Japanese actors were the stars and the Englishman was not the focus so much. I am so glad they got the recognition they deserve. I was only disappointed that Cristin Milioti didn't win for The Penguin, but Jodie Foster was my second choice.

As really focusing on the Japanese as the advanced culture and the Europeans as brutish and uneducated. From your description, the new one is even better from a cultural pov. I wish I could see it.

a super fan of subtitles, but they didn't bother me at all. I just sat closer to the TV LOL!
