Subject: Movie Monday! What did you see this weekend? I saw FOUR movies!

Three of the films I saw were primarily female-led.

1. The Substance. The imdb description is "A fading celebrity takes a black-market drug: a cell-replicating substance that temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself." This film is bonkers. It's written and directed by newcomer Coralie Fargeat and the visuals are stunning, if you have a strong stomach. It stars Demi Moore who won a Golden Globe for this role and is Oscar-nominated. My only complaint is that Margaret Qualley didn't get nominated in a supporting role. Dennis Quaid is good as the misogynist baddie. It's unlike anything I've ever seen.

2. A totally opposite dynamic for the second film. I finally saw Wicked! Cynthia Erivo is fantastic. It's beautiful, frothy and fun. Michelle Yeoh is great. But the best part for me was seeing the OG Wicked duo of Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel do a duet together.

3. Billed as a comedy/drama and a romantic comedy, I saw Oscar nominated "Anora." It was not romantic, but there was a lot of comedy and drama. Both leads are nominated for Academy Awards. Mikey Madison is really great as Anora. A sex worker meets the son of a Russian oligarch in her strip club and they become involved, then get married. His Russian family is outraged and sends their Armenian "employees" to break them up. The supporting Armenian castmembers are great. I wasn't thrilled with the ending, but liked it overall.

4. The one dude movie in the bunch, we saw A Real Pain with Kieran Culkin. He won a Golden Globe for this role and is nominated for an Academy Award. It's a comedy, but also sad at times, as two Jewish American cousins of opposite personalities travel to Poland to honor their dead grandmother. Jesse Eisenberg is the other cousin as well as the writer/director of the film.

I think this one got about 13 Oscar noms, all well deserved. It's a musical, but it doesn't "feel like" a musical with a bunch of smarmy ditties. It's really about love, loyalty, betrayal and redemption. Classic. A must-see.
Ah, the poor Bills go home empty-handed again.

release, but I know it is a Netflix film. Sometimes they later can be "rented" on Prime.

are huge fans and are gutted. As an Eagle fan I am glad I don't have to watch a Bills-Eagles match up though I suppose it would be win/win (or would it be lose/lose). Definitely a lot of family drama lol

You hate to see any important game decided on bad calls or bad coaching type things. Bills have tried so hard for so long. I'll root for your Eagles!

am not sure who to root for this time. I just hope its a close, exciting game without ref interference.

I am going to be out of the country and not able to watch. The last time the Eagles were in the SB and I was away was in 2018. I missed a hell of a game then (Eagles v Patriots). Hope I give them the same kind of luck this time too!

part of a fantasy football group with people from my work. I have been in it for years. My family team is the Broncos so I root for them and the Rams. I like the Bills and Steelers (not sure why) as well. Andy Reid, coach of Kansas City, is a former offensive lineman at the college I work for and he is a donor for our athletics program so we all are supposed to root for him LOL!

he only watches football if the Bills are in the playoffs. Otherwise, no one in our house EVER watches any football. So we will not be watching the Super Bowl at all. Ok, maybe just the commercials, lol.
