It is interesting that you mention that your guy has problems getting his front and his rear on the same leads.
I have been having problems mainly getting my mare's hindquarters on the left lead. She is finally getting that I want her to canter but she switches back and forth from one lead to the other with her front legs a lot. It has been quite frustrating cause I don't think she has any idea what we are trying to get her to do and I can tell she is trying hard.
I kinda feel like cantering at all is counter productive because I am just teaching her to do it wrong but I am starting to think if we don't canter we will never get ballanced enough for her to get it. Trot and lateral work only seem to help so much.
