The Brotherhood of DP SP
Communication from the Alumni Executive Board
Brothers,
As you may know, an Alumni Executive Board has been established to
revitalize our Brotherhood, with the ultimate goal of owning our own
house again. However, we still have unfinished business regarding
the Crag Mansion. When the Fraternity purchased the Crag, the only
way it could be done was to have a co-signer on the mortgage,
guaranteeing our financial performance. Mr. Hergan, (dad of Andy
#164) was the only man whose belief in us was so strong that he put
his name and money on the line for our benefit. Because of Mr.
Hergans commitment, the Fraternity was able to buy the Crag, and
enjoyed it for many, many years.
Years later, there was an unfortunate accident on the Crag Mansion
property resulting in the death of a student and the family of the
deceased student filed suit. At the time, our Brotherhood had no
liability insurance covering the house/Crag property. This lack of
insurance exposed the property to legal action, as the house became
the only asset with any value. Further, Mr. Hergan was still listed
on the deed, exposing his assets to the suit. The Fraternity had
never arranged to remove Mr. Hergan from the deed. By this time,
unfortunately, Mr. Hergan had passed away and his wife was left to
deal with the lawsuit.
The result of this was that Mrs. Hergan was forced to file
bankruptcy in order to preserve her personal assets and the Crag was
awarded to the plaintiff by the courts. Not only did Mrs. Hergan
bear the stress of a lawsuit but she also incurred the trauma of
bankruptcy in addition to significant legal fees associated with the
case. Her credit rating was destroyed as well. The Fraternity had
deeply hurt the very people that believed in us and helped us the
most.
To date, the Fraternity has done nothing to repay or help Mrs.
Hergan.
It's time to restore the Honor of the Fraternity by doing that now.
To get this done, we have established the Delta Pi / Sigma Pi Honor
Roll. Each member of the Honor Roll will have his name engraved on a
Plaque designating him as one of the Brotherhood that defends the
Honor of the Fraternity and understands the value of our
Friendships. This plaque will be hung in a prestigious location at
our NEW house, signifying a historic tie between those who were at
the Crag and those who would inhabit our second house. We have
established the amount of $10,000 as the amount needed to repay Mrs.
Hergan. This amount covers her legal fees but in no way repays her
for all the trouble she went thru, and for the years of our
collective neglect in resolving this matter.
The Honor Roll is limited to the first 100 Brothers that donate $100
or more.
Surely there are 100 of us that have enough honor and money to do
the right thing. Lets get it done right away – no longer than 60
days from when you receive this information. Write a check today or
use your credit card to donate. List your name or list your Pledge
Class. Our progress will be reported via the Brotherhood's Yahoo web
site. The payment information is on the next page.
