Wow what a good question.
I am actually wondering if what you seen was a ghost, energy , ectoplasm.
Nevertheless I feel the same applies.
Mind you, this is my personal opinion.
I feel there are no "standard colours" of what spirits are, what they should be.
I feel both spirits and the receiver (person) is responsible for what is seen.
I feel it is depedant on how a ghost wants to be perceived/ recognised and also the receiver, how they want to receive the images.
For me I think in my mind I somewhere have colourcodes good and bad. The 2 occassions I have seen a dark spirit were "bad" the plethora of times ive seen white have all been positive experiences.
I have also seen once a spirit who looked like a real person only to disappear.
So in answer, in my opinion and experience, there are no set colours
