Dear Friends of Angel Animals,

Welcome to the Angel Animals Story of the Week.

Walking our dog Taylor is so much fun. She has a way of letting us know which direction she wants to take. Usually it's whatever way will prolong the pleasure of our walk together. When we sit on the park bench, she waits, impatiently. With her wide, brown eyes, she implores us to move along.

Was there ever a greater incentive for humans to get exercise than a having a dog who loves to walk and explore nature?

Today's story is about Darlene and Muppy, her old furry friend who found a way to surprise Darlene with a return engagement.

We welcome your stories for possible future publication in this newsletter or in one of our upcoming books.

We invite you to e-mail this week's newsletter in its entirety to others who might enjoy it.

Animal blessings,
Allen & Linda Anderson

STORY OF THE WEEK

WELCOME BACK, OLD FRIEND
By Darlene Montgomery

When my dog Muppy died of old age some years ago, I had a dream in which she fell down a great hole in the universe, and I felt that I wasn't going to see her again. As a member of Eckankar, I have learned that, as Soul, we take on different bodies for experience and that animals do as well.

Even still, I simply didn't expect to see Muppy again.

She had endured a life of much hardship, beginning with me finding her at a dog pound in northern Ontario, Canada. Pregnant, this forlorn mother was covered in a thick matting of fur and infested with literally thousands of fleas.

Even though there were some very cute puppies in the pound that day, I was drawn to this little black dog, standing silently, unlike the other dogs who were frantically trying to get my attention. She sat like a Buddha, staring forward and still. I put my hand through bars of the cage and torched her soft black ears. To me, they felt like silk. I fell instantly in love with this dog. My spouse (at the time) and the owner of the pound both tried to talk me out of purchasing her. But to their dismay, I took Muppy home.

Muppy turned out to be very intuitive. When my spouse was coming home, she'd sit at the door and stare until the door opened and he walked in.

Many individuals remarked on how intelligent Muppy was. She had her unusual habits, though. She liked to roll in anything that smelled horrific. She also was very aloof which drove me crazy. She resisted my attempts to get her to come lay next to me in bed. Instead, she proudly sat at the end of the bed. And that was that.

When Muppy died suddenly at the age of thirteen, I truly believed I would never see her again. Approximately ten years later, I moved into an apartment building. This was the first place of my own I had ever had.

I went across the street to pick up a couple of stray kittens, one black and one striped. I neglected to name them for some time. I was afraid to bond with them after years of being on my own.

A friend finally took it upon herself to name the black one Rumi and the striped one Obe. Rumi soon bonded strongly with me. He followed me from room to room and would nip my leg to get my attention.

One evening I had a dream in which a man said, "Why do you think Rumi is so smart? He's Muppy."

At first I wasn't convinced, but when Rumi started to roll in anything and everything, moved to the bottom of my bed, and refuse to come lay beside me, I was convinced. Like Muppy, Rumi was black and he had a similar white patch on his belly.

Rumi has the same stare, the same Buddha-like way as Muppy. He is a cat who will even do tricks and obey simple commands. Unlike Muppy, though, Rumi likes to go on carpet rides. I pull the carpet; he jumps on and lets me pull him down the hall.

I'm so glad my friend has come back.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT:

Has an old soul, clothed in a new animal body, returned to you? How did you know an old friend had come back?

ANGEL ANIMALS QUOTES OF THE WEEK

"Nothing is as real as a dream. The world can change around you, but your dream will not. Responsibilities need not erase it. Duties need not obscure it. Because the dream is within you, no one can take it away."
--Unknown

"Animals are reliable, many full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and loyal. Difficult standards for people to live up to."
--Alfred A. Montapert

"You can say any foolish thing to a dog, and the dog will give you a look that says, 'Wow, you're right! I never would've thought of that!'"
--Dave Barry

"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."
--Roger Caras

"Anything can be a toy, any moment an occasion to play. So give in to your high spirits and joy of life."
