The thrashings of the mare inside ring out clear. He throws down the gate, watching the horse with a wary eye. The chestnut flys down the ramp, head held high. At the last moment he catches the rope around her neck and ties to to a pole. He then moves carefully away and get's some feed out. He sets it down in front of her and then backs off again.

The mare pins her ears and lunges at the cowboy, but seeing he was out of her range she lowered her head to eat the grain. The delicate ears were pinned the whole time and her eyes darted around, watching for anyone who came near.

The man shook his head and closed the ramp, getting into his truck and driving off.
