Curlyque Afghan -- Karen, 09:16:12 08/03/05 Wed (host.jsc.nasa.gov/139.169.90.49)
I am looking to buy an afghan pattern that was carried in the Mary Maxim mail-order catalog until this spring (2005). I am not sure if the pattern/afghan kit was a Mary Maxim exclusive. The pattern was not available alone, but as part of a kit which also contained the yarn (off-white) and hook. Perhaps someone purchased the kit, and no longer intends to make the afghan and would consider selling the kit -- I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The pattern is a flower with a round center, and the petals are made with "curlyques" or spirals that radiate outward from the flower center (I think there were 8 petals in all). The petals are then joined together with a few edging rows that create a hexagon/octogon shaped finished piece. The pieces are then crocheted together to make the afghan. I have never seen another afghan made like this (and I have been crocheting for 34 years). The only other application I have ever seen curlyques used for were some clowns/baby toys (an octopus made with L'eggs plastic egg-shapped pantyhose containers with curlyques for legs) circa 1975. I so want to make this afghan for a dear friend's little girl. Thank you and God bless:)
