Dear Carol, Peter, Roskills, Charles, Francie and all,

I wish I could come but I can�t. Sasha already had the following week booked for us to be in Italy. Not only would it have taken too long to get from Spain to Italy, although I would have loved to have taken the high road over the Alps � but not the shovelling � but also it has been a really draining time for both of us.

Sasha�s father died last summer. She has had to deal with the will and then getting ma-in-law installed in a home. Now she has the house to sell. I have been up to my eyes and beyond. Two assistants left before Christmas � one pushed and the other lure away by girl friend, I was not attractive enough for him to stay!! � and I have been having a hard time recruiting. One poor lad was due to come and did not because of mental problems. All that seems to be getting sorted out with a new team of four assistants being lined up. The plan is to train them up to take the strain so that I can do more eccentric things in the future!!

However, I am sad to say that I shall be taking Sasha on a leisurely and thoroughly deserved trip down to Italy whilst you, Carol, are confusing the hardened Gomers with pages of the road book discretely glued together.

Have a wonderful time in Spain all of you. I find that I do not have email addresses for the Spike, Gordon, James, the Youngs and the Robinsons. Please give my best wishes to all of them.

Don�t worry, I have not been overcome with permanent prudence. My Welsh cousin and I are going fishing in Slovenia in June. I see that the Gros Klockner pass is en route!! The old Jag is about to go into hospital for that.

George by the way is seriously smitten. Still in LA with GKN. Shannon his girl friend is quite a girl. She is a sports physiotherapist and looked after the Olympic gold winning women�s water polo team. How she managed I have no idea she is tiny and the team�s goalie must have been half as tall again. We all went off to a dude ranch in Wyoming last September. Picture attached. Shannon would greet us in the mornings with �Would you like to ask your son how he did at cribbage last night?� He had lost!!
