  • He could jest about it, but she knew how serious it was. She had seen it firsthand - it was hard to be lighthearted about that stuff even years later, but they tried. "Of course I was never scared of my daddy. He loved me." She missed her father with a neverending ache sometimes - it had been a long time since she'd found herself in a situation with someone who loved her and accepted her personality - her quirks and strange mannerisms. She didn't long for that sort of thing the way some girls long for Prince Charming - she'd almost completely shut it out, but if there were anything she could have changed about her past, it would have been her father's death.
