There are the historically great institutions in NYC like Lombardo's in Brooklyn or John's down in the Village. I have lived on Long Island for 13 years and have never found the same Albanese's nirvanah anywhere. Interestingly, I was playing in a golf tournament in Newtown, Ct. of all places (about 15 miles East of Danbury) and had amazing pizza at a hole in the wall joint called Carminuccio's. Gourmet Magazine rated it one of the 10 best in the US. I could buy that. The other heavenly pizza experience of the last 10 years was at Sally's in New Haven's Little Italy. Well worth the trip and the wait.
