The lake at Lake Isle was once a back up reservoir for the New Rochelle water company. It was Reservoir #1. Twin Lakes was #2. The water goes over a spillway into the Hutchinson River. My family moved to Lake Isle in 1957 when most of the homes there were being built. My mother finally moved (to Florida, of course) about 5 years ago. The builder of the homes in the late fifties donated the corner of the lake to a newly formed homeowners association that built the Lake Isle Shore Club for the residents of Lake Isle that did not have lake front property. While many parts of the lake are much shallower, filling in with silt, the center part near the island, are at least 20 feet deep. It was a nice place to grow up.
