Danielle..
Take a DEEP breath. :) I have a dog that weighs 64 pounds (but is on a diet), and I can assure you, it will not be $3,000.. BUT, if by some odd chance that your bill becomes BIG MONEY, it is not only tax deductable, but you can claim it as travel expenses and the military will reimburse you. We did run into an expensive situation getting our cat from Germany to Okinawa (10 flights in total), where each time we landed and took off again, we had to pay a fee. By the time we got to Oki, we had paid nearly $700 in travel expenses for the cat.

However - you have a choice. If you know the date you are traveling - then CHOOSE TO GO AMC (out of Kadena). The cost for your pet will be under $200 (can't quote the price - but CALL TMO for the exact figure.. I want to say it's either $125 or $175.. can't recall).

Once you get to SEATAC (Seattle), you must make sure you are on flights where the heat embargo won't effect the travel of your dogs (most embargos take effect 15 MAY - please click on the airline information at the voices4animals pet travel page for EXACT pet shipping information, to include heat embargo dates). YOu may find that you'll need to take evening/night flights to avoid problems.

If you fly commercial, Camp Canine has PCS assistance service, and they know EXACTLY what you need to do (paperwork, the process, etc) for getting your dogs back to the U.S. with you.

As long as you are accompanying your pet, you should stay well clear of $3,000 = however = with two pets, I don't doubt you'll run up a tab. CONTACT FINANCE to find out if you are entitled to reimbursement for pet shipping (the word is YOU ARE, but DO confirm this yourselves).. so it's only a temporary financial strain (thankfully).

People leave their pets behind because getting their pets out seems so mind boggling and expensive, but the truth is - that's not the truth. :) It's a bit of a pain, TRUE, but it's not at all difficult, and just takes some timing and organization.

I've shipped dogs and cats all across the world, and have had no negative experiences, nor has it broke the bank.

The contact info for Camp Canine: campcanine@gmail.com

Do contact them if you think you have to fly commercial. :)
They are VERY helpful!
