This sounds like you are working on the toe of the slipper.
I use this method when making hats... just cut the yarn leaving an 8 inch tail.
Thread that yarn tail onto a tapestry needle and put it through all of the live stitches on your needles.
Then pull the opening closed, weave in a portion of the remaining yarn and clip off the end.
