FranNet is the world's largest network of franchise consultants. They offer a broad array of services that include help in turning a company into a franchise, and helping a prospective franchisee learn about the many choices that franchising offers to entrepreneurs. Each of their more than 50 offices is individually owned and operated.
On a national basis, the SCORE-FranNet partnership goes back to the late 1980s, and since 1996, SCORE and FranNet in Chicago have been working together to help people find good franchise businesses that will give them what they want. Everywhere, the collaboration has served people in many ways.
FranNet has referred clients to SCORE for help with business plans, staffing issues, understanding SBA guaranteed loans, and general business counsel. In turn, SCORE has also referred clients to FranNet for help in identifying franchises that are a good "fit" for the client. SCORE also has welcomed FranNet associates to many SCORE locations throughout the Chicago area -- community colleges and other Small Business Development Centers -- in order to conduct workshops on both the nature of franchising and how to research a franchise and select wisely. In the last year, SCORE has sponsored FranNet workshops at SBDCs at Governor's State College, College of DuPage, College of Lake County, Danville Area Community College, and McHenry County College.
On March 10, it was FranNet's turn to come to SCORE’s downtown to present a workshop. FranNet workshops provide a broad look at franchising: franchise myths and realities, small business basics, regulations, and how to research a franchise to make a sound decision. Fifteen participants asked many questions, eager to learn as much about franchising as they can. When the participants left, they had a solid understanding of the exact nature of a franchisor / franchisee relationship.
Jerry Moriarty, who conducted the workshop, has been involved in franchising for 33 years - 23 years with Midas Muffler and Brake Shops, and 10 years with FranNet. He was the first FranNet associate to work with SCORE in Illinois, and has since been joined in this enterpreise by his son Pat Moriarty, and Jim Walz, both Strategic Franchise Advisors.
Both SCORE and FranNet are exploring additional areas of collaboration, including more workshops and even SCORE participation in FranNet Web-cast seminars.
About FranNet: FranNet - The Franchise Connection - is an international company that specializes in matching prospective business owners with franchise companies suited to their professional and personal talents and interests. This is accomplished by assessing an individual's requirements for their ideal business and then searching for and recommending franchise companies that meet those criteria.
