Hello friends,
This post is to ask for your help.
I'm sure you all have heard of Hurricane Katrina and the damage she caused in the southern United States, particularly Louisiana and the great city of New Orleans. Nothing could have prepared the city for this and it will be a long time before she recovers. In the meantime we can hope, pray, and send aid to those who have lost everything. Below I am providing a series of links which lead to websites that have the latest available news and reports from the area. Most of them also have areas in which donations can be made. I ask you to please make a donation, no matter how small or large, every little bit helps.
It is not only humans who are suffering as a result of the hurricane, some 2400 horses, dogs, cats and other assorted pets are being housed in an Expo center in Gonzales, Louisiana. Our friend Jamie, (you know her as Tristan, Cora and Kidd on our site) is traveling to Louisiana along with another SPCA volunteer to help the animals in any way she can. The Eerie County SPCA is only able to send their volunteers with donations form the public. Please visit their page and also the pages listed on the site and make a donation to help the Snowballs, Fidos, and Lightnings who are waiting for their people to find them.
Another major problem is all the students which have been displaced as a result of the hurricane. There are currently 7 students attending my university who are here for the semester, free of charge, so they can keep up with their studies in the hopes that they will be able to return to their own school this winter. To read about the schools involved in housing and teaching the displaced students of Loyola and Univ. of New Orleans, visit any one of the sites listed below.
All our thoughts, prayers, hopes and dreams go out to those affected by Katrina. We wish swift recovery and easy transitions to the victims and their families.
