Subject: I'm back up

We now have power again here. It's been a long lesson learned from this hurricane, one that I don't wish to repeat any time soon. Our water is still bad so I have to boil it or use bottle water. Getting groceries is still hard on this side of town, east of Houston. Some times you can get coke, bread, or milk and sometimes you can't. It's amazing that you can't even buy sugar here. I think that's rather strange.
The one lesson I learned from this was having a large generator, a/c window units, and stock piles of water, bread, and drinks of any kind. Lots of paper goods to toss out after your done eating.
We ran the generator full time and the two window units to keep us cooled off from the heat. I knew my birds would not be able to with stand it without the a/c units. I couldn't with stand it without a/c, because it was just way too hot here. I also learned how important it is to have smaller travel emergency cages for each bird. I bought some more cages and placed my birds into a closet for their safety. They spent the night in there with us and they seemed to really enjoy us sleeping with them. Not that we slept any through out the night of howling winds oustide. I don't think I slept three days before the storm or all that week afterwards. Yesterday, my body finally gave out from exhaustion and I slept the day away.
It took me five straight days to clean the yard up. I burned so many branches and trees. It's amazing what all was blown down here. I bet I could fill up two garbage trucks with ease, if I wasn't able to burn it away.
Life is finally back to normal here. All the birds are happy and don't seem to be affected by any of the storm. Maybe the closet night was adventure for them. Getting hit in the head in the dark with pellets was not fun. I think they were aiming for us and laughing about it. Plus stepping on hard pellets is not fun either. I think I slept on a bed of thrown pellets and had pellet indents in my body by the morning time.
