Qawwali Singing workshop at the Asian Music Centre, London
Tue 3 July 6.45-8.45pm £3
Qawwali music workshop
with the Nizami Brothers & cousins Taufiq Niazi & Ghulam Khusro
Qawwali is the devotional music of the Sufis from the Indian sub-continent.
The Nizami Brothers-Ghulam and Akbar Sabir- from India and their cousins Taufiq Niazia and Ghulam Khusro from Pakistan bring to you the best of traditional Qawwali, in which improvisation is not just in melodic terms but also on the lyrical content. These musicians can make you laugh or cry, make you feel like a prince or otherwise with their superb voice and command of language and poetry.
In this workshop, you will learn directly from the masters. You will learn melodies woven out of beautiful ragas and the exciting rhythms.
This event is part of Sing London, a pan-London festival to unite the city in song from 29 June to 8 July: all kinds of people singing all kinds of music, in all kinds of places. Live a littleÉSing a littleÉSing London!
