This issue tears me up from the inside out also. Today my rescue group had a dog surrendered that the well-meaning person had bought for 1400 from a pet store, this breeds price from broker is $199. This was not the breed for that person, clear from the start, but the swindling pet store clerk sold it to her. If this woman had been educated properly she would have gladly spent that money on animal welfare or given it to a shelter. She was simply ignorant and walked into a pet store BECAUSE IT WAS THERE, looked swanky, and had a sleasy salesperson.
As far as Oprah- well, look what happened to her when she dared to say something bad about hamburgers. Perhaps she is afraid of legal action.
Personally I think Dr.Phil would also be a good one to target- every time dogs come up on his show he has a picture of his puppy that he got from a shelter that he puts up and he repeats several times that he got her from a shelter. Perhaps he would be less cowed by bullshit consequences. let's start sending him email appeals, too.
Really, I was very glad to see your message because this issue is so dear to my heart I think about it all the time too plus it is constantly put in my face at work.
