I agree, PLEASE SAY NO TO PET STORES!!! Dogs (or any companion animals) are NOT commodities - they are a very special part of our lives and our families. I have been a breeder for 10 years and I would NEVER sell to a pet store!!! In fact, I only breed when I have a suitable wait list of qualified families for my dogs. I also encourage EVERYONE to go to the local pound or SPCA to try to find a dog first and foremost that will suit their life style since there are MILLIONS of perfectly good dogs and cats that are essentially living on death row right now while they wait for a second chance. PLEASE consider adopting and saving a life too.

Aside from never selling to a pet store, a good breeder will also ALWAYS guarantee they will take the dog back if you can not keep it at anytime in your life - a pet store or an online company would never do the same. We want to make sure that we always know who has our dogs because we feel a sense of responsibilty fo rletting them come into this world - we don't want them to end up in an animal shelter or a bad home. A good breeder who sells pet-quality dogs will make you sign a spay/neuter contract. We want to breed quality dogs to maintain proper bloodlines, but we do not want to be irresponsible and contribute to the pet overpopulation problem. In fact, most good breeders usually RESCUSE dogs from their respective breed too and try to find homes for adult dogs too.

There is really no excuse for this country to have to put millions of dogs to death each year. We are civilized, we have to control the breeding of these animals and encourage responsible pet aquisition. Pleas save a life and adopt. If you don't find the dog that will suite your home in a pound or shelter, then RESEARCH very carefully for a GOOD breeder. Make sure you have health guarantee and everything in writing! And make sure you see the parents too!!!

One last thing, everyone wants puppies, but there are SO many advantages of adopting an adult dog. They have already formed their personalities and they usually have some sort of training too. Plus, you can often skip the messy house-training job!
