Barbizon has a bad reputation, and it is arguably one of the worst. On one model scam watch website, it seems to have the most complaints.

Barbizon is a modeling school, but modeling schools are not necessary to become models and get contracts. Just ask leading agencies if they require modeling schools.

One person who paid and attended the modeling classes at Barbizon said: "I learned nothing my older sister couldn't have taught me."

Another aspiring model who paid hundreds of dollars to Barbizon said essentially the same thing about what she was taught: "I could've learned all of that from my mom."

This was another complaint: "I spent $1,600 learning how to pluck my eyebrows and set a table."

Although Modeling Scams has received no complaints about Barbizon yet, another modeling site posted several Barbizon complaint letters from parents of aspiring models and aspiring models themselves.

Regarding the IMTA modeling convention, a recent letter explained how they operate and how the scam works.

Modeling schools are considered modeling scams because they offer what is not required, charge extreme prices, yet offer no money-back guarantee.

One of the things they offer is teaching on makeup. From the Barbizon website: "Barbizon offers training in the skillful application of makeup."

A mother who made an online inquiry about Barbizon on behalf of her daughter received a forum response with the following observation: "As for makeup classes, the technique varies from each photographer, and each type of shoot. Modeling schools inevitably only teach two styles of makeup."

But, more importantly, don't professional makeup artists do the makeup for professional photoshoots, not the model?

Another thing they offer is teaching on how to walk. But modeling agencies can teach models how to walk if they are doing local or major fashion shows. It is not complicated, and it doesn't take long to learn. Besides, catwalk modeling is the least common type of modeling. Most models are going to appear in print, not on video or at catwalk shows.

One parent said her daughter was chosen to attend a modeling convention in New York. Barbizon said her daughter was one of the 32 students chosen out of 120 to attend because she had a good chance of getting a contract.

But after being at the convention for several days they found out everyone in the class had been asked to go, and they were even more shocked to discover: "Barbizon students paid twice as much as other schools to go."

This is a very common modeling scam technique: modeling companies pretending to be selective, claiming those who are chosen are a small or very small percentage, when in fact just about everyone is chosen.

"Needless to say it was a very, very expensive lesson."

She added: "The convention was also a waste of time. Out of the 2,000 contestants that attended, only a small handful received callbacks, and only a few were asked to sign contracts."

The bottom line is contracts. You always want to know how many and what percentage of modeling companies get contracts. Many of them will have at least a few success stories, but those are not really the main issues.

The main issues are:

What percentage get work?
Can they prove it?
Is it cheaper to contact agencies directly?
Are the chances of getting work higher going directly to the agencies?

Modeling conventions, like modeling schools, are also considered scams, because they offer what is not required, charge hundreds or thousands or dollars, and come with no money-back guarantee.

It would probably come as no surprise to see modeling schools forming partnerships with modeling conventions. Apparently this is indeed exactly what happens with Barbizon and IMTA.

They have different names, but they could just as easily be the same company. They work together. In fact, it has been reported aspiring models cannot attend an IMTA convention unless they have attended a modeling school like Barbizon: it is a prerequisite.

Interestingly, however, top modeling agencies do not require modeling school attendance, graduation, etc., to sign a model. It is not a prerequisite.

Scam modeling agencies and scam modeling photographers operate in a similar way to modeling schools and modeling conventions. The agency requires the aspiring model to use a particular photographer. But they don't say the agency splits the fees with the photographer. It is a hidden or concealed partnership.

You said you are in Boston. Boston is a large city with its own modeling agencies. Your best bet, since the information you provided suggests your daughter fits the modeling industry standards, is to visit the local modeling agencies. This could actually cost you nothing, but it would give you a clearer idea about your daughter's potential, and if she gets work through them, it would be near home, and she may not have to travel to work in another city.

At the same time you can bypass the Barbizons and IMTAs out there, and contact the big New York modeling agencies directly. Cut out the expensive middlemen who offer no money-back guarantee.

Miss Universe being sold! -- Anonymous, 11:55:19 09/14/15 Mon [4]

WME/IMG has added another event franchise to its holdings, cutting a deal with Donald Trump to acquire the Miss Universe Organization. The sale follows the messy breakup in July of the 12-year partnership between Trump, now the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination, and NBCUniversal in the beauty pageant business.

The company produces the the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants and related content. Financial details were not disclosed.

Having worked closely with The Miss Universe Organization in the past, we understand the incredible potential of the events and the star-quality of the participants, said Mark Shapiro, chief content officer of WME/IMG. The global reach of The Miss Universe Organization and the content opportunities presented by the pageants make this a strong, strategic addition to our portfolio.

Trump and NBCUniversal parted ways in the joint venture they established in 2002 after Trump made incendiary remarks in June about Mexican immigrants as part of his presidential campaign bid. Univision set a five-year, $13.5 million deal for the Spanish-language rights to the Miss USA pageant that was to begin this year with the July 12 pageant, but it dropped the telecast after Trump asserted that many Mexican immigrants were criminals and rapists.

After Univision dropped out, the mounting pressure forced NBC to also scrap its broadcast. NBCUniversal is investing big in Spanish-language media, through its Telemundo and NBC Universo networks, and could not afford to alienate Latino viewers.

Trump sued NBCUniversal and Univision for breach of contract. But as part of the settlement with NBCU, Trump bought out the Peacocks 51% share in the Miss Universe Organization, which smoothed the way for the sale to WME/IMG.

IMG had already worked with Miss Universe on licensing deals in the past. The pageants are a natural fit with IMGs focus on owning event franchises that yield big media rights and sponsorship deals. The company earlier this year bought the Professional Bull Riders sports league for the same strategic rationale.

The value of the Miss Universe Organization undoubtedly was diminished by the upheaval surrounding this years Miss USA pageant, which probably made for an opportunistic buy on WME/IMGs part. Trump bought the company in 1996 from ITT Corp. He struck a broadcasting partnership with CBS for a few years before cutting a joint venture with NBC in 2002. The Miss Universe business began in 1952 with a swimwear competition in 1952 in Long Beach, Calif., according to the companys website.

I have truly enjoyed owning the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants, said Trump. When I purchased the pageants many years ago, they were in serious trouble. It has been a great honor making them so successful and I have really enjoyed watching the pageants grow throughout the USA and worldwide. The pageants are now in the hands of a great company that will shepherd them to even greater levels of success.

WME/IMGs first order of business will be to find new domestic TV partners for the pageants. The July 12 telecast wound up airing on ReelzChannel after NBC and Univision pulled out. Its unclear whether Univision will seek to restore its contract now that the company is in different hands. According to Trumps $500 million lawsuit against Univision, Univision had planned to pay off the full value of the contract even as it dropped the program.

Vanessa Williams saving grace to this issue is she's black! Not only black, but the first black Miss America! Because back then the pageant recieved death threats for allowing her to win. Not excusing the photos, but the pageant's rules was used against them to dethrone her. If she was white, I think she would have disappeared from the spotlight and faded into the regular world.

My wife entered our seven year old daughter into the National American Miss (NAMISS) contest. When we were informed that our daughter was a "finalist," my wife was told she needed to pay $240 to continue in the contest. After she paid this amount, she told me they wanted another $240.00 to continue in the competition in addition to paying for a four day stay (accomodations and meals) at a Hilton Hotel where the next level of competition would take place. When I researched NAM online, I read reports like: "NAMISS is a scam, it is a for profit business that earns millions annually. It is unethical, profit oriented, and preys on the parents of children who believe they are entering a legitimate contest..." Based on the fact that there were 63 "finalists" from Southern California alone, it is clear that the aim for NAMISS to make money. When this became evident, we contacted NAMISS and said that our daughter would not be competing and we wanted our $240.00 back. We were told they have a no refund policy but would give us a $220.00 credit if our daughter wanted to participate the following year. Unless parents are willing to invest thousands of dollars in this competition, they should avoid it like the plague.

I went to a NAM open call and ended up doing the pageant. It was fun. The questions I was asked at my open call were "If you could change one rule at your school, what would it be?" and "Describe yourself with three words."

But if I was asked the question you posted here, I'd probably say something like "I would like to be queen for my state because it would give me a bigger voice, more of an opportunity to speak up for things that are important to me, and be heard."

Of course, your answer should be your answer. But I'd say it is a good thing to talk about what the title could help you accomplish, rather than surfacy or hollow stuff like "Because I'd like to win the $1,000 cash and go to nationals at disneyland" or "Because I am the best" or "world peace."

BTW, I called and found out what you need in order to get accepted into the pageant. They are looking for a B or better grade average, and they want to see that you are involved in some activities that show you are involved and making things happen. School, community, work, volunteering, whatevs. Since it is not a 'beauty" pageant, they do not want to know your measurements, eye color, or any of that. It is about communication and who you are.

I hope it works out for you. I was in NAM and it really was a great experience for me. Especially because I was kind of shy before.

I had received an invitation to the missouri state pageant and was considering it for the the college scholarship offer mentioned in the invitation for contestants who get into the national pageant, but then i read the opinions and facts posted on www.national-american-miss-scam.com/, the exspenses is what made me realize it's not worth considering. I know my family cant afford it. Plus the prize money, if you take into consideration the amount spent, is close to nothing.

Is it a Scam? In my opinion if comes very close, but I am not sure it crosses the line and falls into the Scam category. First, I would like to say what NAM does do "right" and it does do some things right IMO, if you win (and my daughter has won in the past) you are paid right on the spot (can not say the same for other pageants we have done). Also, for the most part NAM does seem to attract a nice bunch of girls and parents. My daughter did have fun competing in this system, and we both made many friends....if you hear a BUT coming...well...you are very right. I think the reason NAM likes to claim it has been in business for 28 years (while the BBB only has records since 2002) is because the founders of NAM used to work for another pageant called America Co-ed, but they broke off and formed NAM. We have done NAM state & Nationals many times but have decided this is not something we will continue to do, it is impossible to see all the flaws the first time, but they are certainly there if you look, in my opinion. Yes, NAM is a business, and they are in business to make money. I do not have an issue with a good company making a profit, but NAM cuts so many corners (again, just my opinion) to pad their profit that I just think it is terrible. For example, sometimes NAM staff will be judges or the spouse of a NAM staff will judge or you will see the same, same, same judges each and every year...hummm. I just have to question is the judging fair, impartial and honest, and I just do not know. It also seems like some of the well known coaches in this system may be a little too friendly with some of the NAM staff and sometimes is does appear if the girls coached by these people often place very well. I would just like to add, I do not want to burst anyone's bubble that feels special for making it though an "open call" but IMO that is another tactic NAM uses to make people believe this is a selective pageant... NAM staffers are smart cookies, their livelihood depends on it. If anyone not selected at an open call, sent NAM the $440 check to enroll....my guess is they would suddenly be accepted!

Look into-one of NAMs biggest corporate sponsors of their national pageant is the National Honor Roll-just google them and see what you find out! Its another scam to obtain school childrens personal information that is sold to 3rd parties.

What I dont get is if this pageant has been around for "28 years" then why hasn't the directors had this competition televised at least as a documentary like Toddlers and Tiaras. Promote it in a way where not every pageant is about big hair, tons of make up, and glitzy dresses. Why not promote grades and scholarships?

I believe that Patty Hawkins should be sued by all families in a class action lawsuit. To allow cheating to go on for years is appalling and shameful. One complaint after another. If you are a parent that gave her money contact an attorney. If you haven't done MAC consider yourself lucky and don't!

Pageant Queen hits a new LOW -- Anonymous, 11:31:44 08/12/15 Wed [4]

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. A Pennsylvania beauty queen has been jailed on charges she faked having leukemia to benefit from fundraisers, and will be stripped of her title.

Online court records show Brandi Lee Weaver-Gates, 23, of State College, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of theft by deception and receiving stolen property. State police say an April bingo benefit raised $14,000 for the Miss Pennsylvania U.S. International pageant winner. Troopers are asking the public to come forward if they have donated money to Ms. Weaver-Gates.

Butlers Beauties, the company that sponsors the pageant, says in a Facebook page statement that they were also led to believe that she was dealing with this horrible disease and are making her return her crown and sash.

Records dont list an attorney for Ms. Weaver-Gates, who faces a preliminary hearing Aug. 19.

How can Trump be trusted as President when he goes back on his word? -- Anonymous, 07:29:54 07/27/15 Mon [6]

A GOOD SUNDAY MORNING TO YOU, FELLOW CITIZENS,

I want to get this into your in-box before Shirley and I head over to church and then spend the afternoon watching to see if our Nats can handle the pressure of the Pirates' home-town crowd and even up the four-game series.

The pressure and consequences were a lot more serious this last week for the 21 Presidential candidates. I think you will be particularly interested in how Donald Trump, Dan Walker and Rick Santorum performed when they "came up to bat" in high-pressure moments, surrounded by the cameras and tape recorders of national media.

Trump on national TV and on the Arizona border stumbled and let himself get boxed into saying he would offer amnesty to the illegal aliens who aren't the "bad ones." He seemed to be defensive and trying to prove that he isn't hostile to immigrants by also indicating he would like to see legal immigration increased.

But Walker -- ambushed by an illegal-alien family brought to Iowa to confront him in front of the national press corps -- refused to be intimidated, stood strong and unapologetic about the importance of the rule of law, and declined to concede an amnesty..

Rick Santorum in a long interview on PBS also resisted being trapped into talking about immigration issues in the paradigm the mainstream media prefers. Instead, he deftly turned the high-profile TV appearance into an appeal to set immigration policy to benefit workers and poor people.

COMMENTS HAVE (grade) CONSEQUENCES

Our NumbersUSA Grading Team reviewed all grades and comments of the 21 Presidential Hopefuls at the end of the week and demoted Trump in two categories and lowered his overall grade. It was a strange turn of events for Trump who dominated the news all week in his tenacious attempts to stand up for the crime victims of illegal immigration, igniting a national debate about "sanctuary cities" that led to the U.S. House passing a bill to defund such local governments. However, he still has not weighed in on what he would do about interior enforcement policies other than sanctuary cities. Thus, there was not a reason to raise his rating in Interior Enforcement.

Here is a peek at 3 of the 10 category ratings plus the overall Worker-Protection Immigration Grade earned by the three candidates who had entered the week with the three top grades:

TRUMP
HARMFUL -- Amnesty Rating
UNHELPFUL -- Reducing Legal Immigration
GOOD -- Interior Enforcement Rating
C -- Overall Immigration Grade

WALKER
VERY GOOD -- Amnesty Rating
VERY GOOD -- Reducing Legal Immigration Rating
NO ACTION -- Interior Enforcement Rating
B- -- Overall Immigration Grade

SANTORUM
EXCELLENT -- Amnesty Rating
VERY GOOD -- Reducing Legal Immigration Rating
GOOD -- Interior Enforcement Rating
A -- Overall Immigration Grade

At the bottom of this email, I list changed ratings on all the other candidates.

Please remember that no rating or grade is in concrete. It often is up to citizens -- especially voters who support candidates for other reasons -- to try to educate them and press them to improve their immigration positions.

I'm now going to show you some of the most important new comments from candidates this week. But you can peruse all of them on the 21 separate candidate pages that you can access by clicking on a candidate's photo on the overall Report Card Grid at www.NumbersUSA.com/2016

The comments upon which we base our ratings all include links to the original news source or candidate websites.

WHAT TRUMP SAID

On Friday's broadcast of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Trump said he was "a very big believer in the merit system" to "work something out" for "some of these people have been here, they've done a good job. You know, in some cases, sadly, they've been living under the shadows."

Nearly all journalists tend to think the most important immigration question is what should be done with the millions of illegal immigrants already in this country. I hope candidates will learn to say, "That's the wrong question. The right question is what can we do to minimize the harm that having a large illegal population does to the wages of American workers."

But Trump answered:

"Well, the first thing we do is take the bad ones, of which there are, unfortunately, quite a few. We take the bad ones, and get them the hell out. . . . We have to get the bad ones out. Then the other ones -- and I'm a very big believer in merit system. I have to tell you. Because some of these people have been here, they've done a good job. You know, in some cases, sadly, they've been living under the shadows, etc. etc. We have to do something. So, whether it's merit or whether it's whatever, but I'm a believer in the merit system. If somebody's been outstanding, we try and work something out. But before we do anything, Joe, we have to secure the border...."
Those comments are in line with an earlier report from TMZ.com:

Donald Trump says if he's elected president, he'd let undocumented workers who are productive stay in the United States, but if they just sponge off the system and don't contribute ... he'd have them deported.

Trump tells TMZ he'd create a "system of merit," saying people here illegally should have "a road to legal status" if they work hard and contribute to the country.

Trump also says no one really knows how many people are in the U.S. illegally -- he cites different stats that show the figure is somewhere between 11 and 30 million. Trumps says it's unrealistic and inhumane to attempt to deport all of them. Thus, the merit system. He says many undocumented workers are "hardworking people" who deserve a chance to live the American dream.
A Sun Times report from his Arizona visit stated:

During a rally in Arizona on Saturday that drew an estimated 4,000 supporters, Trump said nobody should interpret his comments as being anti-immigration.

"I love legal immigration. I love it," Trump said. "We should make it easier, and faster."
WHAT WALKER DID

A pro-amnesty group brought Jose Flores, an illegal alien, and two of his children (a 7-year old and 13-year old, both born in the U.S.) to a Walker campaign stop in Walker's hometown in Iowa. This is a tactic commonly used in hometown districts of Members of Congress and in the halls of Congress here in the Capitol. The effort often works either in embarrassing the politician or getting the politician to back down from previous anti-amnesty positions.

Knowing the national press corps would be following his every move and statement, the pro-amnesty forces surely thought they could force one of those errors while hammering the governor for being one of 26 who are part of the lawsuit that has stopped Pres. Obama's 2014 executive amnesty for months now.

The plan backfired on the open-borders activists, though, as many of the media reported that Walker showed attributes of leadership in the way he handled a highly planned ambush by his opposition.

In "Scott Walker tells undocumented worker that immigrants must follow the law" Jenna Johnson of the Washington Post writes:

It was an opportunity for Walker to demonstrate how he calmly fights back against challenges from activists. He was forceful as he told the Flores family that immigrants must follow the rules, but he added, "I completely sympathize with the situation you're all in and others are in."

One of the activists, Sam Freeman of Wisconsin's Voces de la Frontera, cut the governor off and shouted, "So that's why you want to separate their family?"

Walker curtly said that he wanted to talk only with the family and that their plight is the reason the United States must go forward with "putting in place a logical system." To address illegal immigration , Walker said, the nation needs to secure the border and enforce its laws before it can focus on other issues. An immigration system cannot come at the cost of American workers and their wages, he added.

"When are you guys going to fix the immigration system?" Flores said. "When are you guys going to take the time to fix immigration reform? So we've got to be deported?"

Walker stayed on message, listing his immigration talking points and criticizing Obama for not fixing the system. He also said that he supported the lawsuit Wisconsin filed to stop Obama's executive action.

"No man or woman is above the law in this country," Walker said. "That's the beauty of America."

Then Luis Flores jumped in: "Do you want me, like, to come home -- come from school and my dad get deported?"

"No, that's not what I'm talking about," Walker said. "You mentioned Waukesha. I've got two nieces who go to school there as well. -- I appreciate kids like you and kids like them, so that's not what my point is. My point is that in America, nobody is above the law."
The Wall Street Journal filled in other parts of the encounter that made Walker's steadfastness even more impressive. In "Scott Walker, Confronted by Immigrant in Iowa, Blames Obama for Family's Uncertainty," Reid Epstein wrote:

Leslie was with her father, Jose, an undocumented immigrant who works as a painter, and 7-year-old brother Luis -- told the dozen or so reporters traveling with the Walker campaign their plight. Jose Flores, 38 years old, came to the U.S. illegally from Mexico 19 years ago.

Leslie had tears welling in her left eye and streaming down her cheek. . . . Young Luis asked Mr. Walker: "Do you want me to come home from school and my dad got deported?"

Mr. Walker said that's not his plan. "That's not what I'm talking about," he said. "My point is that, in America, no one person is above the law. The president can't make the law just because he says it."
I didn't notice any of the mainstream media pointing out the irony that the illegal foreign painter who said he lived in constant fear of being deported had nonetheless traveled to another state to confront a Presidential candidate in front of national media. Obviously, this illegal alien -- like most -- has no real fear at all that immigration laws might actually be enforced.

WHAT SANTORUM SAID

On the PBS News Hour, Judy Woodruff tried to focus Santorum on the controversy over whether Trump had crossed the line in tying Mexican illegal aliens to rape and drug running.

Santorum quickly said he had stated his disagreement with how Trump had made the connection but that the question of crime and immigration is one that should be discussed. He immediately then indicated that the most important part of the immigration discussion should be about its effect on American workers:

"I'm the only person in this race who's actually put out a comprehensive plan on immigration control that deals with both illegal and legal immigration.

"And there's -- there are a lot of -- again, to me, it goes with, how are we going to create a better opportunity for lower-skilled workers in America. Many of those poor children you're talking about, who are not going to be able to go to college? How are we going to create the opportunity for them to rise in society?

"And so we have put together not just an economic plan that deals with a whole host of things, including, by the way, increasing the minimum wage, which I'm one of the few Republicans that is in favor of, but also an immigration plan that says let's quit bringing over a million legal immigrants a year, as well as hundreds of thousands, if not millions illegal immigrants, almost all of whom are unskilled, into this country to compete against the workers right now who see their wages flatlining and the opportunity for them to rise decreasing in America.

"And so you can look at the immigration issue, and we have, according to the number, 35 million legal and illegal immigrants have come into this country in the last 20 years. That can be a good thing or a bad thing.

"We need to look at it from the standpoint of what's best for the economy and what's best for the American worker."
Unfortunately, Woodruff then said there was no time to discuss that aspect. But Santorum seems committed to raising the jobs issue in every public forum now.

Here's another fine recent quote by Santorum through the media:

"Since 2000, there have been about 6.5 million net new jobs created in this country. What percentage of those net new jobs are held by people who are in this country but not born in this country? The answer is all of them. There are fewer native-born Americans working today than there was in the year 2000."
If Santorum could be in any of these upcoming debates, his raising the issue in this way can force other candidates to deal with the issue, too. Fortunately, Walker is also raising the issue, although in much less detail, and seems assured of being included. He needs to be encouraged to talk about it in the debates.

THIS WEEK'S CHANGES IN RATINGS AND GRADES

Besides the three mentioned above, the following candidates said things that caused us to change their Ratings on one or more of the 10 immigration categories we track.

MARTIN O'MALLEY
ABYSMAL -- Amnesty Rating (changed from Very Harmful)
VERY HARMFUL -- Unnecessary Work Visas Rating (changed from Unhelpful)
ABYSMAL -- Chain Migration Rating (changed from No Action)
ABYSMAL -- Visa Lottery (changed from No Action)
F- -- Overall Immigration Grade (changed from D-minus)

CHRIS CHRISTIE
GOOD -- Interior Enforcement Rating (changed from Mixed)
C- -- Overall Immigration Grade (unchanged)

JOHN KASICH
ABYSMAL -- Birthright Citizenship Rating (changed from 1st Steps)
D -- Overall Immigration Grade (changed from D+)

MIKE HUCKABEE
MIXED -- Amnesty Rating (changed from Unhelpful)
C- -- Overall Immigration Grade (unchanged)

OTHER RECENT COMMENTS OF INTEREST

Here are a few more comments of interest that we've added to the Report Cards this week:

Ben Carson was reported saying that he would remove illegal aliens "from the shadows" and would require them to pay back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service. Participants would have to "wait in line" to receive citizenship, Carson said.
C- -- Carson's Overall Immigration Grade (unchanged)

In an ad, Huckabee said:

"We've got to repeal Obama's unconstitutional executive orders, oppose amnesty, and secure the border. You don't punish people for living by the rules. If you're rewarding people who play outside the rules, and punish people who live within the rules, pretty soon nobody is going to play by the rules. By securing the border and protecting American workers and their livelihoods, we'll finally help every American earn his or her maximum wage."
Kasich had this to say about what to do with the millions of illegal aliens in this country:

"What about the people living next to us that we go to church with? Does it seem right to make them leave? We don't want to get rid of them, but I think they should pay a penalty for jumping the line.

"... if they're here (and a child is born on American
soil, "I think the baby should be a citizen."

Christie said:

"Sanctuary cities have to stop protecting felons in the midst of law-abiding people. That has to end and if I'm elected president it will end in a Christie administration.

"We've got to penalize employers who hire people who are here illegally. Because the fact is that that shouldn't happen and it's exploiting American workers. But in addition to that, it's exploiting many of those people who are here illegally because they're being paid less money. So we need to make bigger fines to make sure that those employers who violate the law are being held accountable."
Grilling an Administration official in a Senate hearing on sanctuary policies, Ted Cruz said:

"There are too many politicians in Washington that talk a good game but don't act. If you want to honor Josh (Wilkerson), if you want to honor Kate Steinle, start enforcing the law and stop releasing murderers, and rapists, and drunk drivers. ... I don't want to hear from the Obama administration they're sorry while they continue to do the exact same thing because what we know -- more people will be murdered, more people will be raped, more people will be killed by drunk drivers because this Administration refuses to enforce the law. That is wrong. No man is above the law, and that includes President Obama."
C -- Cruz's Overall Immigration Grade (unchanged)

It gets confusing trying to follow all the twists and turns of all these candidates on immigration issues. That's why we do the big grid of our immigration report cards, so you can quickly get a sense at a glance where each candidate stands in relation to the others on 10 different categories of immigration policy.

It is most important to dig deeper than a few superficial sound bites in the media. Keep track of just what and how much substance lies behind each sound bite.

If he overlooks rules in Miss USA as far as TV appearances and nudity goes, then he cannot be trusted to lead an entire country.

He can barely run Miss USA. No way he can run for president. Miss USA/Universe contestant pageant format are treated like call girls. Do nude movies and you're rewarded yet the rules clearly speaks against it. The dumbest answers in the top 5 gets placed higher.

The Prize list is not good at all. No photoshoots, no appearances, no gift certificates. The $1200 should pay for the hotel. Will there be activities? Miss USA state pageants costs lower than this and more is won.

Yeah this one is hideous. It's Miss America who needs to change their crown design. That tiny little thing is tacky.

Global Pageant Production Scam -- Anonymous, 13:26:59 07/15/15 Wed [5]

While working for Lisa Taylor and her company, Global Pageant Productions, I experienced unethical, immoral, and unprofessional business practices. I worked 48 hours from home, due to Lisa not having a professional place of business, and upon resigning, I have NOT been paid for my work. She claims to be the rightful CEO of Global Pageant Productions, Inc., but she is very very unorganized. The company deals with pageants, and there is nothing wrong with the pageants themselves, but the issue is with Lisa.

Myself and two other ladies who began working for Lisa as well have been working full time hours as Event Planners, however, the original job posting specified that we would be Assistants to the Event Planner and Production Producers for an internship that would be 6-8 hours per week. Also, Lisa has no other employees working for her, and wanted the three of us to run her entire company. She also sent one of the girls a Recurring Payment form asking for permission to remove funds from her personal account for whatever reason.

On one occasion, she hosted a meeting very unprofessionally at Marie Callendars and told us we (the new hires) had to buy something during the course of the meeting. During the meeting, she spoke extensively about the famous people she knew and worked with and also about how much money we were guaranteed to make. All of which ended up to be lies. She also failed to send me various emails concerning work-related materials. She constantly changed our work hours and work days, and held all meetings over the phone on conference calls. Again, she has no place of business.

When questioned about all the mistakes she makes, she blames it on the fact that she had an injury and is on medication. She claims she was a rehabilitation worker at one point and her body doesn't do well on any medications. Apparently, over-the-counter Aleve is the root of her mistakes.

She asked one of the girls to book a place to conduct castings for girls to be in upcoming pageants, but told her not to use the name Global Pageant Productions. It sounds to me that the place to be booked had already had a negative experience with Lisa. She also input an employee's personal information in a company website and the employee was sent an invoice of an unpaid balance to her email account stating that Global Pageant Productions has used their services without paying. A fraudulent thing to do.

When I resigned, I of course asked to be paid for the 48 hours I worked over the course of two weeks, and did not receive a response. One of the other employees informed me that in a conversation she had with Lisa, Lisa claimed to have access to employment records and could prevent ME from getting another job if I reported her to the Labor Bureau. How vindictive and disgusting.

Lisa often discriminates as well, and is a huge liar. One woman applied to be in one of the pageants only to be turned away because she was married and had a child. Lisa also makes the girls entering the pageants pay $250 for a crown and sash, when they shouldn't have to pay anything. It's clear Lisa has no initial budget for the company, because we as employees basically had to generate our own income through sponsorships, networking events, and charging the pageant girls, or we don't get paid at all.

These practices are terrible, and I would hate for anyone else to be subjected to these kind of things. We all have lives and bills to pay, and it is not right for Lisa to make promises she can't keep and scam people along the way.

Do NOT sign up with her or this company.

That's why you should never work for pageants. Because many are either contestants or pageant moms and shady directors will take advantage and not pay them. If they complain it could threaten their chances at winning other pageants if the director is friends with other directors.

Employees had to buy something at the meetings? Sounds like a Mary Kay meeting.

I'm guessing why Trump is allowing Olivia to keep her title -- Anonymous, 07:40:30 07/15/15 Wed [4]

I think it's because with several South American queens stepping down, if Texas became Miss USA and the media supposedly find another controversial comment Trump makes, Texas may step down too and it will make the MUO organization look more disastrous.

That could be true. If so then no other queen in the state division should have their titles removed. If it happens then she has a lawsuit case. Allowing Miss USA to keep her titles when she was in movies that also involves nudity and sex scenes but removing state queen titles? Can't do that. None of the other state titles holders should have their titles removed this year.

They were paid off to step down! As a delegate of your country going off to Miss Universe. You have modeling opportunities, tv appearances, special event appearance and you're paid for them all. Yet you step down because of illegal immigration remarks? PLEEEEZZZZZ!!!!!!! They were paid to give up their titles!

Of course they were bought off. Would you quit your 9-5 job because the CEO made a comment you highly disagreed with?
