>or
>>>something like that. yeah sounds like you was in
>>chepstow house remember that guy use to live in a
>>house on one of the lanes on the estate use to have a
>>flash red volvo car.You must have been in Chepstow House the Housemaster was Mr Hopkins he had a large nose, grey hair and a moustache.I was there for 2 and a half years til early 1965. Coming from Birmingham I got on quite well with the Welsh lads there mainly because I played Hooker in the scrum in the rugby team,Goalkeeper in the football team in which I excelled winning Player of the year in the Caldicot and District League in 1964 as well as a trial for Newport County AFC.I also played in the cricket team. The teachers I remember were Mr.Lynn Griffiths a very good teacher even though he was Welsh I have nothing but fond memories of him a great coach at rugby a fair caring bloke and I'm glad I met him when I did.Mr Scrivens another good teacher good football coach always washed every morning in cold water even in the winter. He had red rosey cheeks.Mr Bevan another good teacher I got to know well, another good rugby coach especially forwards.Mr Baker wore glasses was quite young late 20,s got me interested in stamp collecting.Mr Norman Griffiths who used to teach in class. The deputy head I can only remember as Cheesy he loved picking his nose. The metalwork teacher I don't recall his name, small, slightly balding chap who wore glasses.I don't remember the head teachers name but I think he could have been a high ranking officer in the army during the second world war.I had a great time doing the roof of wales walk from Llandovery in the Brecons to Caernarvan Castle in Snowdonia climbing Bryn Teg,Pen y Fan,Cader Idris and Snowdon along the way, well half way up Snowdon I remember the mist coming down I had an asthma attack and ended up being carried to the top and coming down on the mountain train lol.But it was a brilliant two weeks bivouwacking by streams and tickling trout and sleeping with a nightline tied around my big toe which I caught an eel on one night which nearly strangulated my toe.So all in all I really enjoyed my time there once I'd accepted the position I was in I even worked on the ferry before the Severn bridge was open. The Houses there were Chepstow House which I was in mainly for the Midlanders.Tintern House mainly for the Welsh lads and Raglan House a mixture of everything else.I hope I've jogged a memory or two.Incidently I did abscond a few times which probably accounted for me spending 2 and a half years there. The last time I absconded in the middle of the night most of Chepstow House absconded as well only 6 of 40 remained and when they caught me they told me I had led the biggest breakout in the schools history.I would love to know if that's true. What memories ay?
