Hi,
I was at HTS in the early 70's for a year or so, Des Trantor was still there (and widely known as 'Dossy T' I think Mr Harding was still in charge, I worked mostly on the horticulture unit with Mick Weller. I spent quite a few months absconding and living in a squat in London.
Like the previous Andy I have a great family and haven't been in trouble since I did borstal after HTS (oops.) I've had an interest in this stuff for decades now and I honestly believe that the system at HTS (and also at Gaynes Hall borstal which was actually quite similar) was the best way of dealing with most of the kids that went there and I have yet to see anything anywhere near as good in the current regimes, however there are some issues along with that but that's another conversation.
would love to hear from anyone else who was there and what you think of it after all this time,,,,
