Stunt double for Kiwi

She's had more than her share of Hollywood knock-downs, but Kiwi stuntwoman Zoe Bell reigned supreme yesterday after taking out two international stunt awards.


Bell won best fight scene and stuntwoman at the Taurus World Stunt Awards – the industry's equivalent of the Oscars – for her work as Uma Thurman's double in Kill Bill 2, along with fellow nominee Monica Staggs.

The 28-year-old, whose career began as Lucy Lawless' stunt double on Xena, suffered major injuries on the set of the Quentin Tarantino film, reportedly taking a year off work after she dislocated her wrist and required surgery.

Proceeds from the awards – which were created in 2001 – go toward helping stunt performers who experience debilitating injuries in their work.

Bell was also nominated in the high work category for her performance as Sharon Stone's Catwoman stunt double, but the award was won by Starsky & Hutch stuntman Greg Fitzpatrick.

The Hollywood ceremony – famed for wowing its audience with stunts – was attended by an array of celebrities including California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, Jennifer Garner, Vin Diesel, Vince Vaughn, David Arquette and Keanu Reeves.

The Waiheke-born performer told The Dominion Post earlier this year she had always been athletic, but not necessarily healthy. "I've always drunk a lot and smoked and eaten shitty food."

Bell previously described landing Kill Bill as "such a Hollywood story". Initially heading for Canada in 2002, her plans were diverted when she received an emergency call from Tarantino's camp.

Actor Vin Diesel may as well buy a place down here, too, as it's clear he doesn't want to leave. He was spotted along with baseball player Sammy Sosa on Monday night at B.E.D., where he's been for the past few Mondays. The dynamic duo was also at The Forge on Thursday night, having dinner in the main dining room while Elaine Lancaster entertained them. Later they went next door to Glass and partied along with owner Shareef Malnik, Antonio Misuraca and Michael Capponi.

As we reported yesterday, Vasárnapi Blikk ran a story on Sunday saying that former Miss World Hungary Judit Kuchta has dumped American action film star Vin Diesel for a local businessman identified only as Lajos. We must confess that the news of Kuchta dumping Diesel struck us as a little odd, mostly because we had never heard the news that Kuchta was dating Diesel in the first place, and we reckoned that we would have heard about such a coupling while it was still going on. But now, after doing some further research, we think there is much less - and more, much more - to the story of Vin's alleged Hungarian dalliance than even the most scoop-mad Hungo tab is willing to let on.

After just a cursory Internet search, it became pretty obvious that Kuchta and Diesel were not, in fact, an item, at least not publicly. At best, the two were "dating" following Diesel's brief engagement with underage Czech model Pavla Hrbková, whom the famously multi-ethnic actor met while filming "xXx" in Prague in 2002. But it seems just as likely that Kuchta and Diesel were merely having the occasional romp before and after Diesel and Hrbková were engaged. And if you are wondering who the other women in the above pic are, we refer you to the following passage from an article of unknown but seemingly commercial origin that we found posted on the Vin Diesel Infatuated Fan Forum, apparently written while Diesel was allegedly still smitten with his Czech:

After flying into Rome on Wednesday morning in his private jet, shaven-headed Vin, 35, checked in at the Regis Grand hotel. As he set off for a press conference, the star's aides helped four girl fans - Aniko Tatar, Edina Pantinchin, Andrea Bajor and Judit Kuchta - slip through the front doors of the hotel one by one. They later joined Vin at the exclusive Art Cafe Disco for a lavish bash. It was obvious Aniko was his favourite as they cavorted around the floor. One guest told us: "It was beyond Dirty Dancing. She was rubbing her bottom against his and then he grabbed her. Their hands were all over each other and the girl closed her eyes as he caged her against the wall and fondled her. It looked like sheer lust." At 5.30am Vin left the club with all four girls in tow. Back at the hotel the party swept up to his suite. According to staff they didn't emerge until almost TWELVE hours later.
While we are not 100% sure - we've been fooled before! - surrounding Vin in the pic are (left to right) Anikó Tatár, Kuchta, Andrea Bajor and Edina Pantichin. So in other words, it seems like Diesel wasn't so much having a fling with a B-list Hungarian beauty as with half of Hungary's beauty B-list. Not that Kuchta should complain too much; if the above story is true and Vin and his four Hungarian "girlfriends" spent 12 hours together, Judit might have had Vin to herself for a full three hours.

NEW YORK, Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The biggest night of the year for video games will take place at the Spike TV "Video Game Awards 2005" (VGA) hosted by acclaimed actor and producer Samuel L. Jackson, who was a winner at last year's show for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Vin Diesel, The Rock, Missy Elliot, Snoop Dogg, Carmen Electra, Xzibit and Ozzy Osbourne are also set to appear at the third annual awards event. Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie from Ubisoft tops this year's VGA nominations with seven including "Best Action Game," "Best Graphics," "Best Performance by a Human -- Male & Female" for actors Jack Black and Naomi Watts and Michel Ancel for "Designer of the Year." 50 Cent: Bulletproof (Vivendi Universal Games); World of Warcraft (Blizzard Entertainment); James Bond 007: From Russia with Love (Electronic Arts) and Call of Duty 2 (Activision, Inc.) and each have six nominations. All categories and nominees are listed below.

This year's awards will be held at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles' Universal City which will be transformed into the ultimate gamers haven. It will feature dozens of 100 foot tall walls of video screens, skybox audiences and game-versus-game iconoclastic graphics.

Albie Hecht, Oscar®-nominated producer and co-creator of the "Kids' Choice" and "Video Game Awards" will serve as an Executive Producer on this year's telecast.

Ballots were sent out to the VGA Advisory Board, which was responsible for advising on categories and determining nominees in selected award categories. Winners of the VGAs are determined by votes from the Video Game Industry Voting Council which is made up of more than 200 industry journalists. Winners in two "Viewers Choice" categories will solely be determined by viewer voting.

The Spike TV "Video Game Awards 2005" pays tribute to the outstanding achievements of games, designers, animation, breakthrough technology, music and performances of the past year in the world of video games. Diesel pickup: You Vinsome, you lose some

Brawny Vin Diesel is waging (and losing) a public-relations battle in the Dominican Republic after allegedly having a girl kicked out of a popular club when she wouldn't go back to his hotel with him.

The 38-year-old action figure was hanging out with Marianny Pimentel Orde, a 23-year-old architecture student, at the exclusive Santo Domingo club Praia. When the "XXX" star asked Orde to return with him to his hotel, she refused, and things began to go south.

"You think this is a game?" Diesel snapped, according to Orde. "I could be with thousands of girls if I wanted to, but I want to be with you."

According to Orde, an ­incensed ­Diesel ­immediately called the club's security.

"They kicked me out of Praia because I didn't want to go anywhere with him," Orde told Dominican newspaper El Nacional. A rep for Diesel had no immediate comment.

Dominican Republic Hot Spot for Hollywood

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, Aug. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Offering a
breathtaking landscape, ethnic diversity and supportive government, the
Dominican Republic (DR) is proving to be a haven for Hollywood. Evident from
the abundance of movies shot here in the past 20 years, the DR's popularity is
ever growing as the ideal film location for high-profile directors and their
actors.
Most recently seen in Santo Domingo, the DR's historical colonial city,
were prestigious Hollywood actors Vin Diesel and Robert De Niro. Both were
visiting to scout locations for upcoming films and met with DR President
Leonel Fernandez.
Diesel's visit to the DR was in preparation for his starring role in a
film about a Dominican who travels to New York in search of the American
dream. After meeting with Santo Domingo Mayor Roberto Salcedo and getting a
city tour, he announced his plan to promote the DR as an ideal location for
filming movies.
Robert De Niro, who is no stranger to the DR after filming the Cuban
scenes of "The Godfather: Part II" here in 1974, has returned to scout
locations for his upcoming film, "The Good Shepherd." The film, directed by
De Niro and starring Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie, tells the history of the
Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) through the eyes of agency founder, James
Wilson. While in Santo Domingo he completed an on-site inspection and filed
for permits from the Foreign Ministry to shoot the film, which is to begin in
December.
Diesel and De Niro aren't the only actors to take advantage of the
country's beauty and historical grounds. Several movies are currently being
filmed and are set to be released soon. Andy Garcia's "The Lost City," a film
set in Havana and centering on the rise of Fidel Castro and fall of the
Batista regime, is currently being filmed in the DR. The movie will star
legendary actors Dustin Hoffman, Bill Murray, Robert Duvall and Garcia
himself, and is set to be released this year.
Also currently being filmed in the DR is a segment of the "Miami Vice"
movie, starring Colin Farrell and Oscar winner Jaime Foxx as the two main
characters, Crockett and Tubbs. Based on the popular television series
running from 1984 to 1989, the movie is set to be released on July 28, 2006.
Filmed on the DR's North Coast this summer was "Lovewrecked," a teenage
romantic comedy starring Amanda Bynes, Chris Carmack, Jonathan Bennett and
Jamie-Lynn DiScala. Using the beautiful Sun Village Resort in Puerto Plata as
the primary filming location, it also housed the entire cast and crew during
the shooting of the movie. Set to be released this spring, the movie was
directed by Randal Kleiser, who also filmed hits "Grease" and "Blue Lagoon."
While movies being filmed in the DR are on a steady climb, these are not
the only flicks ever to have utilized the country. Other popular movies with
roots to the DR include: "Zombie," a horror movie that came out in 1979 and
was directed by Lucio Fulci; "Serpent and the Rainbow," a horror movie
released in 1988 and directed by Wes Craven; "Havana," released in 1990 and
starring Robert Redford as a character living during the collapse of the
Batista regime; and "Dreaming of Julia," a movie released in 2001 staring
Harvey Keitel focusing on the Cuban Castro revolution and filmed in Santo
Domingo.
