Hi Bettyjo:
You didn't give me a date but I can suggest a few things. The Onondaga tribal censuses and such have not become part of the BIA collection as they have never asked for federal recognition but sometimes you can get clues and connections through others of the New York nations; plus local Onondaga county records.
So, check the BIA Census collection at ancestry.com and see if those names come up. Smith, of course, will, and I have seen Miracle many times. The local Onondaga county records can be surveyed at the LDS site at http://www.familysearch.org (Library>Library Catalog>Place Search) After you get a list of records you want, check, first, to see if they are online; then, see about ordering those on microform at your local LDS Family History Center. It's fast and cheap, for the most part.
There are many NY records online at various places; lots from the NY archives and such; going back to early times. Sometimes the Indian family histories are part of the county histories of the area.
Good hunting.
