There is a David Magee in Green Bay in the 1870 US Census. I assume by 1870 he was married but you did not give his wife's name, so I don't know if this is your guy or not. Keep in mind that Indian-language speakers corrupted the anglo names they had; plus they were often illiterate and unable to correct clerks and census-takers who took down their names. This is often how spellings of names were changed. Given the Indian influence, you must consider spellings such as McGee, Magee, McCoy, McKay, McKee, Mackey, Mackie, etc. On ancestry.com are all of the BIA US Indian Censuses which you can search for enrolled Michigan and Wisconsin Indian families. That would be a good thing to do. Where did you find the names of David's parents? I think, if you give me a little more information, I could help a lot more.
