Hi! I am so confused by a family tree I found online, and by the fact that I have been told I am "part Cherokee" all my life (I also have a rare (among whites, etc) spine disease that is VERY common among Arikara Plains Indians, and Aleuts)and I LOOK Native American descent!. I cannot find any info on my father's family (they are mostly dead)who had an Irish last name. It appears my family has not moved far for at least 300 years or so, from what is now West Virginia, Pa and Ohio. I found the Owens family tree, which has my mother's side:
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/o/w/e/Robert-L-Owens-CAMERON/index.html

"James Edgell (son of Unknown Edgell and Unknown Indian Chickapoo Squaw.) was born Bet. 1699 - 1728 in Dorchester, Maryland1460, 1461, 1462, 1463, 1463, and died May 07, 1782 in Caroline, Maryland1464, 1465, 1466, 1467, 1467. He married Mary Staples on Bet. 1740 - 17681468, 1469, 1470.

Notes for James Edgell:
REFN: 94

More About James Edgell:
Date born 2: Bet. 1699 - 1728, Dorchester, Maryland.1471, 1472, 1473, 1473
Died 2: May 07, 1782, Caroline, Maryland.1474, 1475, 1476, 1476

More About James Edgell and Mary Staples:
Marriage: Bet. 1740 - 17681477, 1478, 1479

Marriage Notes for James Edgell and Mary Staples:
REFN1658

Children of James Edgell and Mary Staples are:
+Elizabeth Edgell, b. Jun 1838, is now Wetzel County, Va.1480, 1481, 1482, d. Mar 18, 1910, BIG MOSES TYLER COUNTY, VA.1483, 1484, 1485, 1486, 1486."

and the obituary written by Elizabeth Edgell's husband (a Forrester) from 1910 reads that she was "Chichapoo" Indian~~there was no "Chichapoo" or "Chickapoo" tribe!
There is also a reference in there of an Indian named Tanacharison (a Catawba born, but Seneca raised: "Half King".
I found Ida Owens on Dawes rolls(early part of the last century) as FB Cherokee, and Emma Owens as Choctaw.

My grandmother's name was Ida Owens, she married into the Forrester family--my grandfather was William Forrester.

What I would like to know is this: could Elizabeth Edgell-Forrester (born June 1838 in west Virginia?)have been Kickapoo, or Kispoko Shawnee? I heard, when I was a kid, her parents died on the Trail where They Cried..and she was ADOPTED! as an infant ..but I did not locate her on the Dawes Rolls, so I doubt that may be true, above it says her grandparents were "unkown Chickapoo".

A girl I met online says our families "connect" through an "Indian Billy" Galloway-Iaac (or his sister--or an adopted Shawnee daughter, also named Mary Ice), "Indian Billy's" sister Mary Ice (or Methoatasko) married Pucksinekau-Shawnee, parents of Tecumseh.
