Most in my family have always been told that we are Cherokee, we were also told we were Black Dutch.
Have been trying to complete ancestry for our family.
My G Grandmother was "Mary Ann Johns" (sp). It was said that her mother was full blood Cherokee. I have not been able to find her anywhere, Indian or not. Hoping someone can help with this name.
Mary Ann Johns married Jasper Wilson,
Other names in our family are Caleb Smith Hankins, James Henry Hankins, Sarah Jane Pickens, Tennessee Guthrie, all rumored to have been Indian.
All of these families originated around VA, Tenn, NC area, moving into Illinois, then to Ark./ MO. and later generations ending up in Oklahoma.
