The land of Mikaijah was shattered. Not by war, but by those with a lust for power, a hunger for riches and a love of themselves. Greed is never satisfied and in their blind desire for wealth and glory, a few individuals had torn the land to pieces. No, it did not happen in the space of a few weeks or even a few years, but the damage now done is terrible. Race turned against race, famine has come and prosperity has fled.
These problems are not even the real issue, but symptoms of a much larger, more deadly disease. The inhabitants of Mikaijah have forgotten the gods and because of this, the wrath of the gods has begun to burn against them.
Ancient prophecy and older legends have been lost from memory; the parchments and hides they were once written on have been left to decay and rot in the ruins of temples that dot the realm. These ruins have been forgotten as well, none now remember the ancient lore that holds the key to placating the wrath of the gods.
Even in this black hour, all hope is not lost. For among the ordinary farmers, potters, merchants and sea-farers, one or two may question the hard times they live in and seek answers. Among the warriors, healers, scribes and mages, someone may have a questing spirit. One of these average beings may chance upon a crumbled ruin and may be curious enough to step inside, to try and decipher a moldering stack of writing. One of these may set in motion a chain of events that would change Mikaijah forever.
