There is no electricity, no plumbing, no motors and bathing is considered to be a detriment to one’s health. These are the dark ages, however….things are not as dark as they might seem at first. The meadow is often full of light-- the fairy folk tend to congregate down there. The forest…well that’s a different story. Concerning what is actually out in those trees…one guess is as good as the next. Traveler’s pass through on occasion, and most make it, but there are stories of haunts and demons, goblins and every other imaginable image that comes along with a dark spooky forest-- and a few of those stories very well may be true, after all, such creatures do live out there, most just don’t bother anyone unless they are bothered first, but no promises could be made regarding the safety of those venturing too deep. The bog is at the opposite end of the kingdom (across from the forest) it’s marshy, foul and often even putrid. Here is where few dare to venture, and aside from gathering peat for fuel at the edge of it, the peasants who live near rarely get any closer than they have to, unfortunately, this is the side of the kingdom to which they have been relegated, with the nobles closer to the castle and forest, and the market in the center of it all.

Now, as interesting as these places are, the town is where the action is most of the time. The market is filled with all sorts of beings, some human, some not so human, and some not even two legged. Those who can’t, don’t, or won’t live off the land all come into market at some point or another for supplies. Often merchants will deal in trade, which is good for the peasants who have little gold, but may have an over abundance of turnips (and there is only so long a person can stand eating nothing but turnips after all). All classes mix through the market, though there are a few shops that no peasant would dare enter due to unspoken restrictions, there’s no written, king endorsed law against it, but that doesn‘t mean the nobles wouldn‘t retaliate just the same.

The king, now that’s another interesting point. He lives on the hill above the village. For the moment, he is the soul heir to the throne, with no wife, no parents and no children, but that would soon change he was sure. Diplomatic relations had been started with many other kingdoms as he searched for a bride…but nothing was final yet, or even fully in motion. He’d been an only child, and often lonely, though it was his own doing to be perfectly frank. No one likes a spoiled self-centered child, and most like a spoiled self-centered king even less. He’d never known what it was like to be refused much of anything and aside from occasional family ties, he’d never really known what it was to be in want of-- well, anything.
