There was a time not long ago that equines were the only creatures living on the island of Jurare, but how times do change. Valdemar, Khalon, and Denali were their callings, but they were no ordinary equines... Far from it, in fact.

Valdemar and Khalon were the first to arrive. The Gods watched them for many years, watching them fight for survival and against each other. They had absolutely no control. 'Twas then that they decided. Late one night, a silvery form descended onto the island. It lay limply upon the emerald sea, and as time progressed through the night, the glow faded. Khalon found her the next morn. He spotted the dark heap and reluctantly went forth, only to discover that it was a beautiful Friesian femme.

Khalon and Valdemar both fell in love with the beautiful neutral fae who had been sent to them, but she was hiding a big secret. Late at night, she would visit each of the studs, and a magical glimmer would depart from her bodice to theirs. Each night it was the same thing, until one a few months after her arrival... She had succeeded. They had both been given the powers that were made for them, and that would help them to survive. Valdemar received the gift of fire, and Khalon the gift of earth.

Denali was destined to return to the heavens, but the Gods realised that she now knew too much of the world to return above. She she remained. Other equus soon joined them on the island, and on occasions Denali would grant one a gift. But each gift came with a curse, and that was something that could never be changed. However, the curse for Valdemar and Khalon was not as planned... Not long after that, humans began to arrive with their machines. They started destroying the land, bit at a time. The Gods helped the two steeds to rid the island of them, but there was a large chance that they would indeed return...
