Dan, Bear, and Jennifer
Dan's been on my mind for some time, and the Bear's been on my mind for the past week, because the local newspaper has been asking for people to write in their memories of him on the 25th anniversary of his passing on to the Great Gridiron in the Sky. Joe emailed me to specifically ask me to write an article, but I couldn't. There was too much to write. I couldn't narrow it down. Turned out, three sportswriters wrote articles, then there were ten smaller letters from people, five former players and five fans, who had brief interesting comments. I need an entire edition of the newspaper to write mine.
Then at about 10 this morning, Tommy Harper called telling me that Jennifer had died. She was only 37 and had been suffering with leukemia - I did not know. Her family and mine were so close before my confinement, and I'm just out of the loop these days.
Jennifer affected my life in ways she never knew about, but now she knows. She was one of the very most important links in addition to being a wonderful loving caring human. And she's the one who produced that picture of young Dan with the long stringy hair sitting by the Narrows of the Harpeth near Kingston Springs. For the longest, Brett had it displayed as the introductory photo on Ever On.
Dan, Bear, Jennifer - Thanks to each of you for contributing to the Abundant Life I was promised before I came here. Your memories are precious to me.
With love,
