Subject: Fat Platy lying on bottom of tank

This is too late to help Elizabeth back in 10/02, but may help someone else with the same question.

In platys look for the darker colored circle towards the back botom part of the fish to determine if it is really pregnant. In our yellow mickey-tail, it actually looks red in color. My daughter's mickey-tail platy laid on the bottom of the tank almost continuously for at least half day prior to having her fry. I now use that as the indicator that it is time to put her in the birthing tank. BTW, our platy seems to give birth every 23 days!
