Subject: My fish is loosing it scales!!!

My fish are acting fairly normally now... but I just noticed one of my female plattys has a strip of white down her side from the top fin to the bottom. My first thought was Ich so I took her out of the main tank and started reading up on it. But it doesn't sound right. She's not scratching at all and I don't see any bumps. It looks like her scales are dying or flaking off. There are some red tiny spots in the strip of white, but she is a sunfire platty and has red coloring all over. I'm not really sure what's the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx!
Katherine
