Subject: Sick Oranda

If you are a fish expert maybe you can answer this one. I bought a medium size red and white Oranda about a month ago. The next day I noticed a white round thing stuck to its side. While I watched, it released itself and then the fish ate it!! I consulted my fish book and then the Associate at PetSmart and she said it was probably Lice. Then over the next couple weeks I kept seeing these tiny white things growing out of his head! They would come and go and sometimes stick way out like a worm, but they were white. They began to multiply and get much larger. We tried a 5-day parasite treatment, which didn't phase them at all. Then I saw a tiny white spot on my Calico Ryukin and knew these things were spreading! Today I brought both fish back for a refund which they gave me, but they are totally stumped as to what this parasite was. Have any ideas?
