DO try the stress coat- it's ok for the other fish- I use it when i change the water even though my fish are really really healthy ( I figure that them being taken out of hte tank then put back in is kinda stressful, i also used it when i introduced a new fish into the tank). You might want to isolate the sick fish so if he has something contagious he doesnt give it to the other fish- if you do that then you can only give the stress coat to the one fish.
