Subject: tank set up

I am going to buy a 125 gal. tank, with fully inclosed stand. As you will see I don't know to much about aquarium set up. I have had a 55 gal. for 15 years, and have only replaced the power filter(hang on back of tank) and air pumps. So when I staarted looking around for a new set up I was shocked at the options you have.
Tank will contain live plants(never had before)and tropical fish, I hope you can help with the following.
1) Fiter, I think I would like a filter that sits in stand.
Would a Canister type be good for what I need?
Would I need to order my tank with holes for this type of filter? I ask this because when I see tanks I like they have this option also how about the pre-filters I also see as options?
2) Lighting: Tank will have a cover that goes with stand, what kink of lighting do I need for the plants?
I have not been to a dealer yet because I don't know enough about this to talk with a SALEMEN yet. All I have did was look on the net.
